Microsoft stopped giving Windows 10 free security updates in October 2025. The computer keeps working, but new security holes are no longer fixed, so it gets riskier to use online over time, especially for e-mail, banking and anything with customer information.
Option 1: Upgrade to Windows 11 for free
If the computer meets Windows 11's requirements, the upgrade is free. Check it in Settings, under Windows Update. If it says the computer can run Windows 11, back up first, then upgrade.
Option 2: Replace the computer
Many older computers don't meet Windows 11's requirements (it needs newer hardware, including a TPM 2.0 chip). If yours doesn't, replacing it is usually the right long-term answer.
If you can't switch straight away
- Keep your web browser and other programs up to date (they still get updates)
- Use two-step sign-in on your important accounts
- Make sure your backups are working
- Avoid using that computer for banking or payments
Microsoft also offered a paid program of extended security updates for a limited time; whether it's worth it depends on your situation. We can check your computers, tell you which can be upgraded, and move everything to new ones where needed.
