Some of the best moments in this work are handing someone back photos they thought were gone for good: kids growing up, a wedding, someone who's passed. More often than not, there's still a way.
Look here first
- Your phone's "Recently Deleted" album (Photos on iPhone, Google Photos on Android). Deleted photos usually wait there for about 30 days
- iCloud Photos, Google Photos, OneDrive or Facebook: your photos may have been backed up without you realising
- Old phones and computers in a drawer, and memory cards from old cameras
- Photos you sent to family: they may still have them
If a phone, computer or card stopped working
- Stop using it. Every new photo or file can overwrite what you lost
- Don't format a memory card or drive that asks to be formatted
- Don't run free recovery apps on a drive that's clicking or failing: power it off
- A water-damaged phone: turn it off and call us soon
What we do
We get back what can be recovered from phones, computers, drives and memory cards, and you only pay if we get your files back. Then we set up automatic backups, so the next time a phone gets dropped, your photos are already safe.
So it never happens again
- Turn on iCloud Photos or Google Photos backup (and check it's actually finishing)
- Keep a second copy on a computer or an external drive
- Once in a while, open a photo from the backup to make sure it's really there
