The most common moving-day problem is no internet. Most of the rest can be avoided with a little planning.
Six weeks or more before
- Order internet for the new address: installs can take weeks
- Check what cabling the new space has, and where you'll need network jacks
- Plan where the router, switch and any server or recorder will live, with power and ventilation
- Tell your phone provider, and check how your business numbers move
Two weeks before
- Have any new cabling installed and tested
- Back up everything, and check the backup
- Label every cable and device before unplugging
- Update your address with your bank, suppliers, Google Business Profile and website, ready for the switch
Moving day
- Set up the internet and network first, then computers, then printers
- Test phones, card readers and the Wi-Fi in every room
- Keep a list of anything that didn't work
The week after
- Fix the list
- Cancel the old internet service once the new one is stable
- Wipe or recycle old equipment safely
We plan and run the IT side of office moves for small businesses, so the team can open on time.
