There's no trick that puts a website at the top of Google overnight, and anyone promising one is a warning sign. What works is steady, honest basics. For a local business, these matter most.
1. Your Google Business Profile
For searches like "plumber near me", the map listings often come first. A complete, accurate Google Business Profile with photos, hours, services and reviews is the single most important step for most local businesses.
2. A clear page for each service
If you offer five services, give each its own page that explains it properly, in the words customers search for. One page that lists everything in a sentence gives Google little to go on.
3. Say where you work
Name your town and the area you serve on the site, and keep your business name, phone number and area the same everywhere they appear online.
4. A fast, mobile-friendly site
Most local searches happen on phones. A site that's slow or hard to use on a phone loses visitors, and Google notices. Google's free PageSpeed Insights tool shows how yours does.
5. Reviews
Ask happy customers for a review, and reply to every review, good or bad. Never buy reviews or offer rewards for them: it breaks Google's rules.
6. Tell Google the site exists
Google Search Console (free) lets you submit your site, see which searches show it, and spot problems.
7. Be patient, and avoid shortcuts
New pages can take weeks to appear. Avoid anyone selling hundreds of links or mass-produced pages: Google's spam rules can push a site down instead.
