A phone that's been in water often looks dead, but the storage inside, where your photos and messages live, frequently survives. What you do in the first hours matters.
Right away
- Take it out of the water and turn it off. Don't keep pressing buttons to see if it works
- Don't charge it: power plus moisture is what does the damage
- Take off the case, and remove the SIM tray if you can
- Call us as soon as you can; corrosion keeps working inside for days
Skip the rice
Rice doesn't pull water out of the inside of a phone, and its dust can get into the ports. Apple's own advice is not to put an iPhone in rice. Leave it in a dry place with some airflow and get it looked at.
What we can do
We open the phone, clean the corrosion off the board, and get it running long enough to save your photos, messages and contacts, or repair it outright when that makes sense. We tell you honestly what's possible before we start.
Before the next accident
Turn on iCloud or Google backup for photos and messages. Then a dunked phone is just a phone, not years of memories.
