When e-mail shows up on the computer but not the phone, or the other way round, the mailbox is usually fine. It's how the device is connected to it.
Check the mailbox itself first
Sign in to your e-mail in a web browser (outlook.office.com for Microsoft 365, gmail.com for Google). If the mail is there, the problem is the device's app, not your mailbox.
Common causes
- A changed password the phone or Outlook still has the old one for
- Two-step sign-in turned on, and the app needs to sign in again
- An old app or account type that your provider no longer allows (older "basic" sign-in methods have been switched off by many providers)
- A full mailbox
- Filters or rules moving messages into another folder
Try this
- Remove the account from the phone and add it again, using the provider's own app (Outlook or Gmail) where possible
- In Outlook on a computer, restart it, then check the account settings for a sign-in prompt
- Check the mailbox storage, and look in other folders and the rules
For a business, we set up everyone's e-mail properly on their phones and computers, and make sure it keeps working when passwords change.
