When your cloud storage fills up, backups stop quietly and, with Google, new e-mail can stop arriving. Don't ignore the warning.
See what's using it
- iCloud: Settings, your name, iCloud (or iCloud.com)
- Google: open your Google account's storage page, which shows Drive, Gmail and Photos separately
The usual space-eaters
- Old phone backups from phones you no longer use
- Videos, especially long ones
- Large e-mail attachments
- Duplicate photos and screenshots
- Files in the trash or "Recently Deleted" that still count until emptied
Clear it safely
- Delete backups of old devices you no longer have
- Download and keep a copy of anything you want to remove, before you delete it
- Search Gmail for large messages (search: larger:10M) and delete the ones you don't need
- Empty the trash and Recently Deleted
Or buy more space
Sometimes a little more storage is cheaper than your time. If you choose that, keep a second copy of important photos elsewhere too.
We help families and small businesses sort out storage and backups so the warnings stop for good.
