Common problems we fix

Phone or tablet won't charge

Falls Technology Services · Idaho Falls · October 25, 2026

Most phones that "won't charge" have a perfectly good battery. The problem is usually the cable, the charger, or the port.

Try this first

  1. Try a different cable and charger that you know work
  2. Look into the charging port with a light. Pocket lint packs in over time and stops the plug seating properly. Carefully loosen it with a wooden toothpick, never anything metal
  3. Restart the phone
  4. If the phone supports wireless charging, try a wireless charger. If that works, the port is the likely problem

Moisture warning?

If the phone says liquid was detected in the port, unplug it and let it dry completely before charging. Don't use heat.

Battery worn out?

On an iPhone, Settings, Battery, Battery Health shows how worn the battery is. On many Android phones it's under Settings, Battery or Device care. A battery that drains fast, or shuts the phone off at 20%, is due for replacement.

If the screen is lifting or the back is bulging, the battery may be swelling: stop charging it and bring it in. We repair charging ports and replace batteries and screens.
