Forgotten passwords and lost phones lock people out of accounts every day. Here's how to get back in without making it worse.
Use the official recovery, from the real site
Go to the sign-in page yourself (type the address or use the app) and choose "Forgot password". Don't use links from e-mails or texts you didn't ask for; fake recovery pages are a common way accounts get stolen.
If the recovery code goes to an old phone number or e-mail
- Look for backup codes you may have saved when you set up two-step sign-in
- Try the account recovery form, and answer from a device and location you normally use
- Be patient: big providers sometimes make you wait days on purpose, to stop thieves
For a business account
If it's a work Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace account, your administrator can reset the password and two-step sign-in. If the person who set it up has left and nobody has admin access, that's a bigger problem worth fixing now.
Never again
- Use a password manager so you only have to remember one strong password
- Keep your recovery phone number and e-mail up to date
- Save the backup codes somewhere safe
- Make sure at least two people can manage the business accounts
We help businesses get back into their accounts, set up admin access properly, and make sure it doesn't depend on one person.
