Most "no sound" problems are the computer sending sound to the wrong place. Check these in order.
Quick checks
- Check the volume and mute, both on the computer and in the program or website that's playing
- Choose the right output: on Windows, click the speaker icon in the taskbar and pick the speakers or headphones; on a Mac, use Control Centre, Sound
- Unplug and replug headphones or USB speakers; try a different port
- Turn Bluetooth headphones off: the computer may be sending sound to them
- Restart the computer
If that didn't fix it
- Windows: run the audio troubleshooter (Settings, System, Sound, or search for "troubleshoot sound")
- Check for updates: audio drivers come through Windows Update or the computer maker's support page
- No sound only in video calls: check the speaker choice inside the call app's settings
If the speakers crackle, or sound stopped after a drop or a spill, it may be the hardware. We can test it and repair or replace the part.
